Henry Davis to rejoin team for Dodgers series

What the catcher has done in the minors

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After an opportunity to work on his swing in AAA, Henry Davis will be recalled according to several reports as the Pirates open a series with the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Joey Bart remains out with a thumb injury. Jason Delay is working back from a knee injury and Endy Rodriguez is out for the season. It may be a little quick, ideally, to bring him back, but the Pirates were left with little choice. Grant Koch, while the effort is there, was struggling in his couple of starts.

In 23 games at AAA, Davis is hitting .296 with seven doubles, seven home runs and 17 RBI. His on-base percentage is .436, back to where we’ve seen it previously, and the OPS is 1.078. From what Pirates manager Derek Shelton told us, he’s also gotten back to using more of the middle of the field instead of trying to pull everything.

Since May 16, Davis has had a hit in 13 of his last 15 games.

While the Bucs have had off-days recently, they will only have one between Tuesday and June 20. Grandal is 35-years-old and while he would seem willing to catch every inning, and has been good defensively, he’s struggled to a .179 average/.191 on-base and only five extra base hits.

Bucs host the Dodgers on Tuesday with Jared Jones starting against Tyler Glasnow. The North Shore Tavern Leadoff Show starts our coverage at 5:45p, hosted by Dan Zangrilli.
