High Pirates prospects among Major League camp invitees

A look at the bigger names to attend Bucs Spring Training

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – They are part of the next wave of Pirates players and you'll get to see them at training camp next month.

Bucs announced 13 players will attend Major League camp, including several of their top prospects, as non-roster invitees.


Many of them are potential starting pitching options

·      RHP-Bubba Chandler-after a slow start to the season, the former Clemson QB commit finished 10-4 with a 4.54 ERA with 128 strikeouts in 111 innings

·      RHP Jared Jones-finished strong with a 2.78 ERA in September with 21 strikeouts to six walks in 22.2 innings in AAA. Overall between AA and AAA, 3.85 ERA with 146 strikeouts to 50 walks.

·      RHP Paul Skenes-rated as the top right-handed pitching prospect in the game after being selected 1st overall by the Pirates in 2023. Pitched in five games, 6.2 innings, 107 pitches, four runs, two walks, 10 strikeouts.

·      RHP Thomas Harrington-started last season at Low A, 4-1, 2.77 ERA with 40 strikeouts to 12 talks. Moved up to High A, 3-5, 3.87 ERA, 106 strikeouts to 29 walks in 88.1 innings

·      LHP Anthony Solometo-led the Pirates organization with a 3.26 ERA, in 24 starts struck out 118 and walked 39. Struggled at times in AA, 2-4, 4.35 ERA, 50 strikeouts to 14 walks in 51.2 innings.

Other notables

·      C Carter Bins-hit .300 in the Arizona Fall League and a great defensive catcher. Could be in the mix this season due to the injury to Endy Rodriguez.

·      OF Matt Gorski-the 26-year-old was having a huge season in 2022 before his year was cut short due to injury. In 81 games, 24 home runs, 11 doubles, .598 slugging. Last season, the right-handed hitter had 20 home runs, 20 doubles, .434 slugging

·      INF Termarr Johnson-the Bucs 2022 first-round pick played his first full professional season hitting .244 with 12 doubles and 18 home runs with a .422 OBP between Low and High A.
