PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Yes, Mike Tomlin did like Justin Fields and now the Steelers get both Fields and Russell Wilson in completing a trade Saturday afternoon.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting the Steelers trade a sixth-round pick to Chicago for the former Ohio State quarterback. With expanded playing time, the selection can be upgraded to a fourth rounder.

Fields is going into his fourth year, with a cap hit of $6 million according to
spotrac.com. If his fifth-year option is picked up by the Steelers before the
deadline this Spring, it would cost them around $25 million in 2025. They will
have to make that decision before he played a snap for them.

Starting 10 games as a rookie out of Ohio State in Chicago, Fields has improved every season.

There were some games where he showed the promise you would want from a young starter:
• Threw for 335 yards, four touchdowns in a 31-28 loss to Denver
• Threw for 282 yards, four touchdowns with 57 yards rushing in a 40-20 win
over Washington the next week
• His first game back from injury completed 70% of his passes with a
touchdown and rushed for 104 yards
• Completed 73% of his passes and rushed for 59 yards in a 12-10 win at
Minnesota
• Threw for 268 yards with a touchdown and another rushing TD in a 37-17
win over Arthur Smith and Atlanta.

It seemed clear on Friday that Russell Wilson will be the starter in 2024. That’s
likely still the case but now added insurance or a potential long-term starting
quarterback for at worst a fourth-round draft pick.

So let’s sum up the week that started with a Russell Wilson tweet that he’s
coming to Pittsburgh, continued with Mason Rudolph signing with Tennessee.
Hours after Wilson was introduced as the Steelers quarterback, Kenny Pickett was traded to the Eagles. Now on Saturday, a trade of a late-round draft pick to the Bears for the 2021, 11 th overall section Justin Fields.

Art Rooney said they were going to make changes to win, how about an entirely new quarterback room in the span of days. Stay tuned to 93.7 The Fan for more on a wild Steelers offseason.
