Ready or not, here comes Russell Wilson.
According to multiple Steelers insiders, including 93.7 The Fan’s Mark Kaboly, it will soon be the veteran under center for the Steelers over Justin Fields, who has started the first five games of the season.
Kaboly says he believes Las Vegas will be Fields’ last start for the Steelers before Wilson takes over.
“I think they’re going to give Justin one more opportunity and I don’t know if anything . . . can stand in the way of Russell playing next week against the Jets,” said Kaboly, adding that’s just his opinion.
Kaboly told Joe Starkey, he doesn’t think it matters how well Fields plays against the Raiders, he believes it will be Wilson beginning Week 7.
“We pretty much got a pretty good snapshot of what this offense looks like under Justin Fields,” said Kaboly. “It’s not like it’s going to get remarkably better. We don’t, 100 percent, know what it looks like under Russell Wilson.”
That’s one side of the coin. The other is Wilson gets released without even playing a game for the Steelers.
ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano predicts that Wilson never plays a down at quarterback for the Steelers.
He said Wilson’s deal include a “no-trade clause.”
That means he could get released and not traded.
Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin made the announcement that Wilson is expected to practice in full during his weekly news conference on Tuesday.
“He’s at the point of health where he can work on a Wednesday without restrictions,” said Tomlin.
Wilson will get reps with the second team so Justin Fields’ work with the first team is not disrupted.
Tomlin added that they are in a “different place” with Wilson this week as he continues to recover from a calf injury that occurred at the beginning of training camp and flared up before the start of the season
