PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) Kenny Pickett spent five seasons with the Pitt Panthers and brought the most successful season the program has seen in a long time.
Through five seasons, Pickett brought 12,303 passing yards and 81 touchdowns, both school records.
He finished third in Heisman Trophy voting in 2021 following an ACC Championship, but it all almost didn't happen.
Pickett joined Adam Breneman to be the first guest on his podcast, "Breneman Shows Up" and discussed how he almost didn't attend Pitt.
When it was coming closer to decision time, Pickett was torn between Pitt and the University of North Carolina.
After soft-committing to Temple University, Pickett hit a growth spirt and began hearing from more NCAA Division I schools like Pitt, North Carolina, and Boston College.
Pickett says that he then committed to Pitt because Matt Canada was the offensive coordinator and liked his system.
Canada then left the school and Pickett was considering de-committing from Pitt and flipping to UNC.
Pickett went on to tell the story that he had a good relationship with North Carolina's offensive coordinator and the Tar Heels gave him a late offer.
Boxes of Tar Heels gear was sent to the Pickett household and a full commitment was needed.
Pickett just days before both schools needed an answer decided to play with Pitt and the rest is history.
