PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Konnor Griffin joined the Fan Five Alarm Marathon to give a status update on his injury.
"I'm feeling good. I'm down in Florida doing some rehab, you know working back to making throws and we're making really good progress down here. I'm in a good head space, looking to hopefully be back sooner than later. As of right now, feeling really good," said Griffin.
He said it's hard to put a timeline on it because it depends on how he's feeling day to day.
"We're up to 150 feet so I'm at a spot where I have to put the arm to a test. I'd like to say we're close to where we want to be."
He says he could DH if the Pirates wanted him to DH but it's hard to rehab his throwing with the team.
"Coming down here to Florida you become the priority to have hands on one on one with the coaches, get your work in. It's more quality work to rehab to get back when you're down here. If they wanted me to DH I would do it in a heartbeat, I miss being with the guys."
He said his time being in the MLB has been everything he imagined it would be.
"I just needed to be in the games, get the reps, be in there to get the experience. It really started to feel very normal playing at the big league level. I had some good success and there were suffer times too. I have a lot more to prove, I can do so much more. Taking it day by day and going through the experience, I'm pretty happy with how things have gone. I just know I can do more to help the team win. I'm a .900 OPS guy, that's what I did last year. That's something I can improve on. My walks, staying gap to gap, doubles and homers, just using the power, the skills that I've showed throughout the minor leagues I can show at the Big League level. It just takes a full year to do that so I'm ready to get back and keep rolling."
Griffin has been out of the lineup since May 30th.
