Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin will begin a rehab assignment in Double-A Altoona.
Pirates Manager Don Kelly told reporters before Tuesday’s game that Griffin will play with the Curve on Wednesday.
Griffin was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 31 after suffering a forearm strain.
The Pirates have been taking their time bringing back the 20-year-old rookie to make sure he is 100 percent before returning to the lineup.
Kelly said there isn’t an exact timeline for Griffin in Altoona and will take it “day-by-day.”
Kelly also updated the media on pitcher Jared Jones and said he is doing well after being hit in the elbow during Sunday’s start in Colorado.
He confirmed X-rays were negative for a fracture and that they are talking it day-by-day with him as well before his scheduled next start.
