Friday night lights: Tickets punched to Acrisure

Tickets have been punched to Acrisure Stadium in the WPIAL.

In Class 5A, it will be a rematch of last year's Championship as Pine-Richland faces Peters Township November 23 at 8 p.m.


The Rams defeated Bethel Park 28-7, behind a monster game from Mac Miller who rushed for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Peters Township defeated Upper Saint Clair 7-3. Down 3-0 with 22 seconds in the half, Nick McCullough returned a 97 yard kickoff for a touchdown to give the Indians a 7-3 lead at the half.

Faced with a 4th and 26, Upper Saint Clair threw a hail mary that was almost caught at the 2 yard line, but was knocked out of the receivers hands falling incomplete.

Peters Township defeated the Rams 43-17 last year in the Championship.

Class 3A will see Central Valley against Avonworth November 23 at 5 p.m.

Up 14-7 over Elizabeth Forward, Steven Rutherford's 91 yard rushing touchdown was the game changer to give the Warriors a 21-7 lead and they would run away with it 31-15.

Avonworth and Imani Christian were tied 0-0 at the half, but the Antelopes were able to break the ice with a Luca Neal rushing touchdown in the second half. The Antelopes upset #1 Imani 14-6.

Class 2A will see #1 Seton LaSalle against #2 South Park November 23 at 2 p.m.

South Park fumbled the opening kickoff and faced a 7-0 deficit against Ellwood City but would score 28 unanswered behind two rushing touchdowns from Colson Heynes and another two from Eric Doerue. The two combined for 289 yards in the win.

Seton LaSalle went from a winless team in 2022 to a team that is one win away from a championship. They will play in their first WPIAL Title game in 20 years. They took down the Steel Valley Ironmen 27-13 behind Logan King's three rushing touchdowns and Khalil Taylor with a receiving touchdown.

The Class 1A championship will pit one of the best quarterbacks in the WPIAL against one of the best WPIAL defenses in history. Fort Cherry faces Clairton November 23 at 11 a.m.

Matt Sieg rushed for 6 touchdowns and became the second player in WPIAL history to rush anf pass for 4,000 yards in his career. The other one was Terrelle Pryor. Sieg accomplished this feat against Pryor's Alma Mater, the Jeannette Jayhawks. Fort Cherry won the game 49-14. The Rangers are the defending 1A champions and will look to add a second title in school history.

Despite having multiple chances inside the Clairton Bears 10, Bishop Canevin came up with 0 points in a 24-0 Clairton win. The Bears allowed just two offensive touchdowns all season. The Bears broke the game open after a blocked punt and then two plays later Deon Pompey scored to make it 16-0. Mike Ruffin would add on with a 66 yard touchdown. Clairton has won 10 of the last 18 WPIAL Championships.
