KDKA Radio becomes flagship station of the WPIAL

NewsRadio KDKA will celebrate its fifth season of covering the marquee high school football and basketball game of the week in Western, Pennsylvania with a new designation: The flagship station of the WPIAL.

KDKA and the WPIAL, both of whom have each been in operation for more than 100 years, announced today they have entered into a groundbreaking, innovative, multi-year partnership that is dynamic in its scale and scope.

“KDKA and the WPIAL are iconic in Western Pennsylvania, they should and now will be together,” said Audacy Pittsburgh Senior Vice President and Market Manager Michael Spacciappoli.

“Our goal from the day we launched this platform has always been the same: To tell the stories of these incredible student-athletes and the communities they play in. We are steadfast in our mission, and this partnership with the WPIAL takes it to a completely different level.

As part of the agreement, KDKA Radio will become the official radio broadcast partner of the WPIAL, providing a combination of highly produced terrestrial radio and audio streaming (free-of-charge) broadcasts of all WPIAL football and boys and girls basketball championship games.
Continuing will be the station’s award-winning, on-air and digital coverage of the KDKA Radio Game of the Week, which includes additional, exciting programs and content to be announced at a later date.

The synergistic agreement also calls for expanded branding and promotional consideration for the WPIAL that meets the ever-changing landscape of scholastic athletics while also providing robust an diverse platforms for the league partners, member schools and student-athletes.
