
The postseason is officially underway with first round action last week, and both first and quarterfinal rounds to be played in the days ahead. Last week, there were numerous strong performances that garnered a spot on this week’s Watch List.
This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous week. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL boys and girls classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.
Here are the top performances from Week 10:
Isaiah Jeter, Central Valley
Jeter finished the regular season and began the postseason with a couple of bangs.
First, he scored 46 of his team’s 63 points and hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer in a 63-31 overtime win over Northgate to close out the regular season. He then followed that with an impressive 33-point effort against Derry in the Class 4A first round.
The senior scored 18.9 points per game in the regular season and has Central Valley at 19-4. They’ll take on section rival Beaver on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
Greta O’Brien, Avonworth
After a slow start to the season, Avonworth has found its stride of late with O’Brien being ghr biggest helper.
Last week, the senior scored 29 points against Fox Chapel in the Antelopes’ regular season finale win over Fox Chapel. She followed that with an impressive, career-high 33-point output in a 67-35 win over Beaver Falls in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Avonworth will next face OLSH on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
Lukas Stead, Allderdice
Stead, a bruiser on the football field for Allderdice, used his power to lift the Dragons to another City League title on Sunday.
Allderdice rallied from a nine-point deficit entering the fourth quarter Sunday, topping rival Obama Academy 59-53 to claim a fifth straight City League championship.
A junior, Stead has averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds per game this season. He also scores 12 points in the Dragons’ regular season finale against Carrick and 12 points in Allderdice’s semifinal win over Westinghouse last week.
Kaylee DeAngelo, Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson continues its strong season last week with an emphatic win to open the postseason.
DeAngelo scored 20 points as the Jaguars handled Latrobe 68-47 in the first round of the WPIAL Class 5A playoffs. She also scored 18 in the regular season finale win over Pine-Richland, a 65-48 decision.
The Jaguars next meet unbeaten Penn-Trafford in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
DeAngelo has received Division I offers from Akron, Manhattan, RMU, Youngstown State and Delaware.
