We enter the final week of section play with playoff spots on the line. This past week, teams made moves towards their postseason goals while a few individuals put up massive numbers.

This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous week. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL boys and girls classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.

Here are the top performances from Week 8:

Zion Moore, Belle Vernon

Less than 40 players in the history of WPIAL basketball have been able to celebrate scoring their 2,000th point at the high school level.

Zion Moore is now a member of that illustrious club.

Last week, Moore scored 27 points against Elizabeth Forward Tuesday and 37 points against East Allegheny Friday, becoming the 39th player to reach the illustrious milestone.

The wins moved the Leopards to 17-4 overall and 10-1 in Section 3-4A, with a chance to win the section title outright Tuesday.

Moore has a college offer from Edinboro.

Annsley Baker, Beaver

Once again, Beaver is putting together a strong girls basketball season on the hardwood.

Baker has been the catalyst, and helped the Bobcats to two wins last week.

First, the sophomore racked up 18 points in a 56-42 win over Hopewell on Monday. She followed that with 20 points in a massive 67-63 overtime win over Central Valley on Thursday.

In addition to basketball, Baker also plays volleyball and golf, and is a cheerleader.

Brayden Fisher, Carrick

No player in the region had a scoring week like Fisher, who scored over 30 points in four games — all wins.

The senior guard dropped 42 points against Aquinas, 37 points against Brashear, 30 more against Valley and 38 in a win over Perry.

Fisher averaged 36.8 points in the victories, and currently has the Raiders at 11-8 overall and 4-3 in City League play.

Cate Gentile, Pine-Richland

Pine-Richland scored a pair of much-needed wins against two rivals last week, and Gentile was the leader in both.

The junior scored 17 points in a 38-33 win over North Allegheny on Monday, and followed that with 19 points in a 56-43 victory over North Hills Friday.

Also a standout lacrosse player, Gentile and the Rams finished last week at 6-1 in Section 1-6A play, winning three straight following a four-game losing skid.

High school basketball broadcasts continue on KDKA Radio this week with a special Thursday matches on the girls side better Baldwin and Thomas Jefferson, followed by Friday night’s matchup on the boys end between Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair. Coverage begins at 6 p.m. on 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA.
