As Pittsburgh’s premiere live and local heritage station, News Radio KDKA, 100.1-FM and 1020-AM, is pleased to announce the inaugural class of the KDKA Radio Super 7, which unveils the top student-athletes in boy’s and girls’ basketball and football in the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League.
“High school sports and KDKA Radio are woven into the fabric of Western, Pennsylvania culture,” said Michael Spacciapolli, KDKA Radio Sr. Vice President and Market Manager. “We are proud to expand our commitment to the community with deserving recognition for these elite student-athletes. Their remarkable contributions in the 2020-21 basketball season will now be remembered forever as members of the inaugural class of the KDKA Radio Super 7.”
The Super 7 field was selected by a panel of high school basketball experts. The student athletes were presented a prestigious trophy at an intimate ceremony at the KDKA Radio studios.
Dan Zangrilli and Post-Gazette high school sports editor Mike White, who headline KDKA Radio high school sports programming, unveiled the winners in this video episode.

WPIAL CLASS 1A
BOYS
DOM ELLIOTT, 6-4, GUARD, SENIOR - BISHOP CANEVIN
Helped team win its first WPIAL title in school history. Played on a well-balanced team and averaged 15 points a game and led team in rebounds with 10 a game. Also topped Crusaders in 3-pointers.

GIRLS
CORYNNE HAUSER, GUARD, 5-8, JUNIOR – ROCHESTER
Rochester won its third consecutive WPIAL title this season and Hauser played a major role in all three. Averaged 19 points a game this season, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals. Has 1,192 career points with one year left.

WPIAL CLASS 2A
BOYS
The race was so tight that we had co-players of the year…and both from the same team!
DANTE SPADAFORA, 5-11, GUARD, SENIOR – OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART (OLSH).
Helped team to 24-0 record. Averaged 18.7 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Scored 1,792 career points. Will play at West Liberty.
JAKE DIMICHELE, 6-3, GUARD-FORWARD, JUNIOR – OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART (OLSH)
One of top scorers in WPIAL at 29.1 points a game. Has 1,813 career points with one season left at OLSH.

GIRLS
MAIRAN HAGGERTY, GUARD, 5-11, SOPHOMORE – NESHANNOCK
A sharpshooting guard who is excellent from 3-point range. Neshannock won the WPIAL Class 2A title and made it to the PIAA title game and Haggerty led the Lancers in scoring with a 19.1 average.

WPIAL CLASS 3A
BOYS
OMAR FAULKNER, 6-6, CENTER, SENIOR – SOUTH ALLEGHENY
One of the most imposing defensive players in the WPIAL. Hit double figures in blocked shots in some games. Averaged 5 blocks per game. Also averaged 13.5 points. Helped team reach WPIAL title game for first time in school history.

GIRLS
PAIGE JULIAN, 5-8, GUARD, SENIOR – MOHAWK
Was one of the main reasons Mohawk won two consecutive WPIAL titles. Averaged 19 points, 7 rebounds a game. Finished with 1,156 career points. Will play next season at West Liberty.

WPIAL CLASS 4A
BOYS
ANDREW AMMERAN, 6-7, CENTER, SENIOR – NORTH CATHOLIC
Came on strong as a senior for team that made the WPIAL 4A title game. Averaged double-double with 18 points per game and 12 rebounds per game. Shot 65 percent from field. In the semifinals and championship game, had a combined 56 points, 31 rebounds and 10 blocks.

GIRLS
EMMA PAVELEK, 5-8, GUARD, SENIOR – BEAVER
Led Beaver to the first WPIAL title in school history. Averaged 15 points a game and was a big reason why Beaver had incredible statistic of allowing only 25.2 points a game defensively. Scored 1,427 career points. After originally committing to play next season at Naval Academy, Pavelek announced to KDKA Radio that she is re-opening her college recruitment process.

WPIAL CLASS 5A
BOYS
BRAYDEN REYNOLDS, 6-2, GUARD, SENIOR – CHARTIERS VALLEY
Stands among the pantheon of a long line of great players to originate from Chartiers Valley High School. Finished his career with 1,523 points. This season, averaged 24.9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists for a team that made the WPIAL Class 5A title game.

GIRLS
AISLIN MALCOLM, 5-11, GUARD, JUNIOR – CHARTIERS VALLEY
Already has made verbal commitment to Pitt. Won her third WPIAL title this year. Averaged 16 points with 65 3-pointers. 1,270 career points.

WPIAL CLASS 6A
BOYS
ELI YOFAN, 6-2, GUARD, JUNIOR --- FOX CHAPEL
A versatile player who averaged 22.4 a game this season. Also averaged 7.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.7 steals, 1.3 blocks. Shot 54 percent from field. Also excels on the golf course and the volleyball court.

GIRLS
LIZZY GROETSCH, 5-11, GUARD, SENIOR – NORTH ALLEGHENY
This year averaged 16.4 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals for team that won WPIAL and state titles. Scored 1,504 career points. Will play next season in Ivy League at Penn.

PITTSBURGH CITY LEAGUE
BOYS
TA’MERE ROBINSON, 6-3, FORWARD, SOPHOMORE – BRASHEAR
Has started since freshman year. Averaged 12 points a game this season. Has major-college scholarship offers in football as a defensive back and receiver from numerous Power 5 institutions.

GIRLS
SAMAREE PERKINS, FORWARD, 5-10, JUNIOR – OBAMA ACADEMY
Perkins led Obama Academy to an 8-1 record, but the team did not compete in the City League playoffs because of a COVID-19 scenario. Averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds a game.
