KDKA Radio Super 7 Watch List: Week 4

We’ve now reached the midway point of the 2022 high school football season, and Week 4 brought a heavy slate of key matchups throughout the region.

This week, a pair of sophomore standouts, a record breaking receiver, and an all-purpose all-star highlight the KDKA Super 7 Watch List.

Throughout the season, KDKA Radio will put together a watch list of some of the best players in the region. At the end of the year, the top performer from each WPIAL classification, and one member of the Pittsburgh City League, will receive the prestigious KDKA Super 7 Award.

Here are the top players from Week 4:

Xavier Nelson, Bishop Canevin 

Nelson, the reigning KDKA Radio Super 7 Class 1A Player of the Year, caught three passes for 123 yards, including a pair of 50-plus-yard touchdowns, as the Crusaders beat Avella, 56-0, Saturday.

WIth the performance, the senior set Bishop Canevin records for career catches (98) and career receiving touchdowns (25).

He has picked up an offer from Westminster.

Eric Kasperowicz, Jr., Mars

Kasperowicz, Jr., only a sophomore, passed for 236 yards and four touchdowns, while running for another score as Mars rocketed past Moon, 51-7, Friday night.

The son of Mars head coach Eric Kasperowicz, the younger Eric has passed for 581 yards and six touchdowns, and has run for four more touchdowns this season.

Mars, which won just one game (and another by forfeit) last year, has already won four games this season.

Tiqwai Hayes, Aliquippa

A finalist for the Class 4A Super 7 Award last year, Hayes has again been tremendous in just his sophomore season.

On Friday, he proved to be clutch. Hayes ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns as Aliquippa survived an upset bid from West Allegheny, 19-16.

On his biggest run of the night, Hayes came through with a one-yard touchdown carry with 2:10 left.

He is one of the top sophomore recruits in the region, and has already picked up offers from Pitt, Michigan, Maryland, Syracuse, Louisville, Cincinnati, WVU, Penn State, UConn and UMass.

Jack Fennell, North Catholic 

Fennell rushed for 170 yards and caught two passed for 59 yards, scoring three touchdowns, as North Catholic got by Kiski, 33-21.

The junior accounted for 317 all-purpose yards in the victory.

Fennell has racked up 614 all-purpose yards this season and has scored five touchdowns for the Trojans, which snapped a two-game skid Friday.
