It was an electric week of high school football throughout the region, with a number of dramatic finishes, including a walk-off win featured in this week’s Super 7 Watch List.
This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous Friday night. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.
Here are the top performance from Week 4:
Marques Council Jr., Aliquippa
Trailing 16-15 with seconds to go, Council Jr. delivered a stunning finish to give the Quips their third win of the season.
Council Jr. hit Ray Miller for a 28-yard touchdown as time expired, securing a 21-16 win over the Indians.
The touchdown topped a big night for the senior, who passed for 309 yards and three scores in the victory.
Also a strong basketball player, Council Jr. is committed to Yale to play football.
Ayden Yocum, Mars
In a game heard on KDKA Radio, Ayden Yocum stole the show.
The senior tailback rushed 38 times for 310 yards and three touchdowns as Mars topped Montour 29-21.
Yocum had three run of more than 50 yards in the win, as the Planets went to 4-1 on the year.
The performance was a big bounce back for Yocum, who ran for just 18 yards a week prior in a loss to Aliquippa.
Taylor Reid, Woodland Hills
Woodland Hills has a pair of highly touted Division I recruits in Scoop Smith and Ziggy Moore. But another star may be emerging for the Wolverines’ offense.
Reid shined on Friday, racking up 230 rushing yards and four touchdowns as Woodland Hills pounded Shaler 41-7.
Over the last two weeks, Reid has rushed for over 400 yards and seven touchdowns, as the Wolverines sit at 3-2.
Mayson Mitchell, Gateway
After a rough start to the season, Gateway has responded with a pair of solid wins in conference play.
Mitchell led the Gators to their second straight win Friday, passing for 315 yards and four touchdowns in a 33-28 win at Franklin Regional.
Over his last two games, Mitchell has passed for eight touchdowns, including four in last week’s narrow win over Kiski.
Mitchell’s 315 yards were the most of any local player in Week 4.
