Friday's high school football action was jam-packed with high scoring games, upsets and thrilling finishes throughout Western Pennsylvania. It also included some big-time individual statistical showings.

This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous Friday night. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.

Here are the top performances from Week 5:

Donald Barksdale, Steel Valley

Barksdale is certainly no stranger to big rushing performances, and Friday continued his run of great play.

The senior rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-0 win over Shady Side Academy.

After a 1-3 start to the season, the Ironmen moved to 3-3 with their second straight blowout win.

Barksdale has picked up a handful of Division I college offers.

Elvis Koutsakis, Gateway

Gateway fans can't help falling in love with Koutsakis, particularly after what he sas able to do Friday night.

Only a freshman, Koutsakis passed for 377 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-20 win over Armstrong.

12 of his passes went to passes to Shawn Moorefield, who hauled in 181 yards.

The Gators moved to 3-3 on the year with the victory.

Tasso Whipple, Penn-Trafford

Whipple has shined for the Warriors for the last couple of seasons, and put up a big performance against a nearby rival Friday.

The senior racked up 163 rushing yards and found the end zone three times in a 34-10 win over Plum.

The performance was his fifth 100-yard effort in six games this season.

Whipple currently has an offer from Slippery Rock.

Tanner Pfeuffer, Bethel Park

Bethel Park has quite the 1-2 punch with tailback JaVaughn Moore and Pfeuffer.

On Friday, Moore racked up over 200 rushing yards. But it was Pfeuffer who shined brightest, with 331 passing yards and three touchdowns in a 45-36 win over Moon.

The win was a meaningful one for Bethel Park, which moved to 6-0 and grabbed its first win in the Allegheny Six conference.

Pfeuffer has accounted for over 1,400 yards and 21 total touchdowns already this season.

The 2024 high school football season continues Friday, as KDKA Radio will bring you broadcast coverage of Peters Township at Moon.
