KDKA Radio Super 7 Watch List: Week 9
The regular season is complete, and now teams throughout Western Pennsylvania turn their attentions to the postseason, beginning their quests to Acrisure Stadium and Norwin High School for this year’s championships. But before we hit the postseason trails, let’s check out Week 9’s best performances.
Throughout the season, KDKA Radio will put together a watch list of some of the best players in the region. At the end of the year, the top performer from each WPIAL classification, and one member of the Pittsburgh City League, will receive the prestigious KDKA Super 7 Award.
Here are the top showings from Week 9:
Da’sjon Craggette, Southmoreland
Winning a rivalry game is always nice. Breaking a school record while beating a rival though? That’s a great night.
And that’s what Craggette had Friday, racking up a Southmoreland-best 335 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 40-3 win over neighboring Mt. Pleasant.
The win locked up the third spot in the Interstate Conference of WPIAL Class 3A, and set up a matchup with Deer Lakes in Friday’s first round of the playoffs.
Craggette has offers from Fairmont State and Notre Dame College.
Anthony Boyd, McKeesport
The McKeesport rushing attack, as usual, has been hard to slow down all season. Whether it’s Keith Spell, Boyd or someone else, the Tigers have ran their way to the No. 2 seed in the Class 4A playoffs.
On Friday, it was Boyd’s turn. The junior rushed for 232 yards and two touchdowns – including a 90-yard run – in McKeesport’s 28-7 win over Thomas Jefferson.
The win not only gave the Tigers a conference title, but also secured a bye in the postseason. Earlier this year, KDKA Radio featured Boyd in This Hits Different:
Karter Schrock, Apollo-Ridge
Hitting the 1,000-yard mark in a season is a solid accomplishment. But doing it in two different statistical categories is outrageous. And that’s what Schrock pulled off Friday.
Schrock ran for 236 yards and two touchdowns, and passed for 202 yards and three more scores in a 37-33 win over Burrell. In the game, Schrock went over 1,000 rushing and 1,000 passing yards this season.
While Apollo-Ridge’s season comes to an end, the Vikings go out with a win over a playoff team, and Schrock ends his high school career with a memorable performance.
Quinton Martin, Belle Vernon
Martin’s future collegiate coach, Penn State’s James Franklin, was at Belle Vernon Friday, and Martin put on a show for him.
The senior scored four touchdowns in three different ways, as the Leopards ran away with a 49-28 win over a strong Elizabeth Forward team.
The 5-star recruit pulled in four passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, he ran for a 36-yard score and returned an interception for another touchdown.
The win secured another Interstate Conference title for Belle Vernon, as well as the No. 1 seed in the Class 3A bracket.
The high school football season continues Friday, as KDKA Radio will once again provide award-winning broadcast coverage of the region’s biggest game of the week. This week, you can hear a Mon vs Gateway’s playoff game on 100.1 FM and 1020 AM KDKA Radio. Follow @KDKARadio on X (Twitter) and Instagram for updates throughout the night.
