PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – While downplaying the time of the bye week, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin listed a number of players who could return this week against Washington.
The list ranges from a corner with little experience to a running back, who as a kick returner, is an NFL all-timer.
DB Corey Trice (hamstring)-the second-year corner missed his entire first season due to injury and was starting to work into the rotation before a Week 3 injury
OLB Nick Herbig (hamstring)-suffered in the loss to Dallas, Herbig and Alex Highsmith were out for a short time together. Highsmith has returned and potentially Herbig could against Washington. The second-year linebacker had a pair of sacks against the Chargers.
RB/KR/WR Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle)-hurt after a huge series for him during the Colts game. Patterson has only rushed 16 times for 92 yards with five receptions for 34 yards with the Steelers
C Zach Frazier (ankle)-hurt in the second half of the Raiders game, Frazier became the starter in training camp after Nate Herbig’s injury. He would have won that job at some point, but could return this week. He is rated as the fourth best center in the league according to Pro Football Focus.
LB Tyler Matakevich (hamstring)-happened early in the season and could return to help bolster the special teams unit
QB Justin Fields (hamstring)-Tomlin said it was a minor injury during the last practice before the Giants game. He was designated as the emergency quarterback against New York last Monday night. Tomlin said they didn’t want a small problem to be a big problem. He doesn’t anticipate that being a big issue.
First practice for the Washington Commanders is Wednesday.
