Blame Canada?
Not lately.
The Steelers offensive coordinator has prepared two solid game plans the past two weeks. One resulted in a loss and on Thursday night, a win against Tennessee.
“Matt Canada called a hell of a game tonight,” said Chris Mack on the Forth Down in the Steel City podcast.”
So, what’s the big difference?
Balance and blocking.
The Steelers are effectively using their running backs in tandem and missing pass plays with runs.
They’re also getting Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren into the passing game as well.
That puts another wrinkle into what the opposition have to prepare for.
Another reason, Broderick Jones blocking on the right side, starting over Chuks Okorafor.
Jones and tight end Darnell Washington kept the line moving throughout the game.
The passing game was far from perfect with Kenny Pickett missing a few throws.
That’s not on Matt Canada.
Even with the “Fire Canada” chants still echoing from a few Steelers fans at Acrisure Stadium on Thursday night.
The Steelers are finally embracing some small changes, including Canada calling plays from the sidelines.
It’s far from perfect, but Canada has been helping more than hurting, at least the past two games.
