McCarthy comfortable where they are with Rodgers

Steelers head coach on his potential starting quarterback

McCarthy comfortable where they are with Rodgers

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – “The fact of the matter is nothing has changed.”

What Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said when asked about Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday.

McCarthy talking after the second day of offseason on-field work with the team on the South Side. The first-year Steelers head coach said there was a high attendance rate except for the potential or likely starting quarterback.

“I will answer the question the same way I always have, I think Aaron is more in-tune than we would realize,” McCarthy said. “I have confidence in where he would be the day he would arrive, if that’s his decision.”

Those last four words ‘if that’s his decision’ was not said as an omen, rather a qualifier as the expectations are with the Steelers that they’ve had good, ongoing conversations with Rodgers and are just waiting on that answer.

“There are benefits to periods when your veterans aren’t here,” McCarthy said. “This is a very beneficial time for Will (Howard) and Mason (Rudolph) right now. They split all the reps the last two days and that’s great work.”

“When you see it improve one day to the next and that’s what you are looking for.”

There doesn’t appear, at least in public from McCarthy, to be a push on Rodgers to get an answer.

“I’m comfortable where we are and giving him the space to make his decision,” McCarthy said.
