LATROBE (93.7 The Fan) – Over the weekend Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told Michael Silver of The Athletic he wants to play in the first two preseason games this year. Head coach Mike McCarthy reacted to that before the first padded practice Monday at St. Vincent College.
“Yeah, he’d like to play,” McCarthy said. “I’d like to see him play.”
Last year Rodgers didn’t play a snap in the preseason and that never appeared to be much of a discussion. The then 41-year-old threw four touchdowns in the season opener at the Jets.
“Those are decisions are going to be made once we get up there,” McCarthy said. “Trust me, I’ve got a lot of ideas. We have plans, a lot can happen between now and then.”
McCarthy said it could depend on the health of other quarterbacks or other factors.
Rodgers hasn’t played in a preseason game since 2023 with the Jets where he completed 5 of 8 passes for 47 yards against the Giants.
