PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – When Mike McCarthy was a young coach, a couple of Pittsburgh natives who were NFL coaches (Marty Schottenheimer, Jim Haslett) gave him opportunities on their coaching staff. If there is a person who demonstrates McCarthy paying it forward, it’s Scott McCurley.

Like McCarthy, McCurley started as a Pitt graduate assistant and was hired by McCarthy in Green Bay as a defensive quality control assistant and he would serve different roles in 10 seasons with the Packers. When McCarthy was hired by the Cowboys, he brought McCurley, a Mohawk HS and Pitt alum, with him to coach linebackers for all five seasons.

McCurley finished his first season with the Steelers this year coaching the inside linebackers. At Pitt, the 44-year-old was a four-year starter at linebacker and 1999 Big East All-Academic Team.
