The Pirates made a few roster moves ahead of Wednesday afternoon’s finale against the Miami Marlins at PNC Park.
Right-handed pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.
In a corresponding move, RHP Kyle Nicolas was optioned to Indy.
Mlodzinski was 1-4 through 9 starts and a 5.67 ERA with the Pirates before being optioned to Indianapolis.
The 26-year-old returns to the Pirates with a 2-0 record over three starts with the Indians.
He posted a 1.15 ERA with 16 strike outs over 15.2 innings pitched and a WHIP of 1.15.
Nicolas goes to Indy with a 7.50 ERA over 10 games this season and 12 innings pitched.
In his last appearance Nicolas gave up three hits and one earned run over two innings pitched on Monday against the Marlins.
In addition, catcher Joey Bart begins a rehab assignment with the Indians on Wednesday.
He was placed on the Injured List after suffering a concussion against the Diamondbacks in Arizona two weeks ago.
Bart is batting .240 over 44 games with 11 RBI and one home run.
