A memorial service will be held in his hometown of Rockway Township, New Jersey on April 23.

A vigil is set to take place in Potomac, Maryland, where he played high school football, the day after.

The Haskins family released their first statement following Haskins’ death to television station WUSA in Washington D.C.

"We have had such an overwhelming outpouring of love for our son since the news broke of our loss," says Tamara and Dwayne Haskins, Sr., parents of Haskins. "Anyone who knew Dwayne knows he worked exceptionally hard to achieve such a high level of success at such a young age. He was touched by so many people on his journey to being a standout athlete and we are grateful to all of them. This pain is unimaginable and we appreciate everyone who shares in our heartbreak."

Locally, a service will be held on the North Side this Friday, after Haskins’ wife, Kalabrya Gondrezick-Haskins, made the announcement in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

That service will take place at the Allegheny Center Alliance with a public visitation from 10-11 a.m. and a celebration of life service from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Haskins was hit by a dump truck and killed early on Sunday morning while crossing Interstate I-595 in South Florida.

Haskins was a standout at Ohio State University, starting just one season but broke Big Ten records and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.

In 2018, Haskins threw 50 touchdowns completing 373 passes out of 533 attempts for 4,831 yards.

Washington picked Haskins 15th overall in the 2019 draft, but the young quarterback struggled and along with some off field issues, was released at the end of the 2020 season.

In 13 games started in two seasons with Washington, Haskins went 3-10 with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with a passer rating of 74.4.

The Steelers signed Haskins to a Future/Reserve contract in 2021 and spent most of the past season on the Steelers’ scout team.

Haskins talked about how much he appreciated being signed by the Steelers during minicamp last year.

“Just coming here to Pittsburgh, I just wanted to prove to the coaching staff and my teammates how much I love football.” he said. “I’m just grateful for the opportunity to be here and just showing that my mind’s in the right place and I’m willing to work to be able to show my talents and work to earn a spot here.”

The 24-year-old Haskins would’ve turned 25 on May 3.
