According to Steelers Post-Gazette insider Gerry Dulac the organization is expected to offer a contract to free agent running back Jaylen Warren.
What is surprising is that the possibility that RB Najee Harris could return in 2025.
The Steelers declined the former 1st round pick’s 5th year option before this past season began.
Even with that, Dulac reports “there is a strong possibility he could be signed to a new contact before the start of free agency on March 12.”
Dulac adds that Tomlin likes his “bruising style” of running.
Harris has run over 1,000 yards in every year in the NFL so far.
But, that isn’t enough for Joe Starkey who says it’s simple why the Steelers shouldn’t re-sign Harris.
“I love the intensity with which he runs, with which is approaches his job, I respect that,” said Starkey. “He’s just not that good.”
Starkey says Harris doesn’t have any explosiveness and 1,000 yards means nothing to him and that it’s a mirage.
“I think there are 100 to 150 running back combined in the pros and in college where if you gave them the exact same volume that Najee has had, they would, at least, give you those same accumulative numbers that he’s put up.”
Donny Football agrees with Starkey.
“He’s not a game-changing player whatsoever . . . let another team sign him,” said Donny.
If the Steelers think their offensive line can push people around and they want to run the ball, which they do all the time on first down, then they need to get a running back that can do something that Harris can’t do well…run!
The Steelers have had a better running back on their roster for the past two seasons, Jaylen Warren.
