PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was just a couple of years ago as the Pirates headed into the first full squad workout that Jack Suwinski was a power, impact bat in their lineup. On Monday, Suwinski was designated for assignment to make room for another power bat, designated hitter Marcell Ozuna.

It speaks to how far the 27-year-old has fallen in the organization.

Suwinski hit 19 home runs in 2022 and followed that up in 2023 with 26 homers and 74 RBI. The thoughts were at the time that if they could just make a tweak here and there, the left-handed hitter would be a centerpiece of an offense with Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz.

It went the other way.

Suwinski came out of the gate with a .182 average in April in 2024 and it never got better. He finished with a .588 OPS and .324 slugging percentage. It got worse in 2025--.147 average, .253 slugging, .534 OPS and only three home runs in 150 at bats.

It was once thought the Pirates got a steal in the Adam Frazier trade with San Diego, instead Suwinski became the roster casualty of a 35-year-old DH.
