PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Originally the Pirates medical staff thought Oneil Cruz could avoid the Injured List with what was reported as a cut on his hand sliding into home last weekend. X-rays now reveal Cruz has multiple fractures in his left hand (fourth and fifth metacarpal non-displaced factures).
The move is retroactive to Monday and the team recalled outfielder Billy Cook form AAA.
On Wednesday, Jake Mangum started in centerfield.
Cruz leads the Pirates with 44 RBi and is second with 14 home runs. He also leads the Bucs with 21 stolen bases
The 27-year-old Cook is hitting .190 (4 for 21) with five runs and three stolen bases. In AAA, Cook is hitting .291 with three home runs, .882 OPS.
