PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Two in their conference division are in the top 15 as Pitt received no votes in the AP preseason college football poll.

10.  North Carolina

Like the Panthers, North Carolina returns its starting quarterback and ranked 10th.  Sam Howell is coming off a great year (3586 yards passing, 68% completion, 30 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 179.1 rating), but they lose the 138 yards per game of Michael Carter and the 22 touchdowns from Javonte Williams.  Also gone is thousand-yard receiver Dyami Brown.  UNC also has the replace defensive leader Chazz Surratt.

14.  Miami

The recruiting class rankings are improving, which voters believe will eventually turn into better records.  Manny Diaz is 14-10 in two years.  Since Pitt knocked the Hurricanes from a potential national championship game, they are 21-18.  Canes do return starting QB D'Eriq King (2686 yards, 23 TD, 5 INT passing/538 yards/4 TD rushing) and were 8-3 last season.

19.  Penn State

Nittany Lions won their last four games last year and will open the season at Wisconsin.  Sean Clifford is back at quarterback and he has receiver Jahan Dotson, but lost tight end Pat Freiermuth to the Steelers.  Nittany Lions do have some intriguing potential playmakers on defense.

41.  West Virginia

OK, it only goes up to 25, but the Mountaineers received three votes in the preseason poll.  Most of the starters back from a 6-4 season, there are also some key skill guys returning.  Can West Virginia develop a play-making quarterback.  Also, what are the dynamics in a Big 12 soon without Texas and Oklahoma.

The Panthers have quarterback Kenny Pickett back, but voters didn't believe in their ability to replace All-Americans Patrick Jones and Rashad Weaver along with Paris Ford and Damar Hamlin on defense.

Pat Narduzzi seems to enjoy the underdog mentality.  Here is another article for the bulletin board.
