Nike is expected to continue with it City Connect uniforms in 2023 after introducing them in 2021.
The unique uniforms have been coming out slowly. Not every team has one yet, including the Pirates
But, it looks like that’s about to change if an alleged leak is to be believed.
While we don’t have much, a tweet shows what may be the City Connect socks that Pirates will wear at some point in 2023.
The black, gold and grey socks feature a gold line design on the foot area and pattern on the calf.
It’s hard to tell but the pattern could be a few things.
Some on twitter have speculated it is a “B” and “Y”, which would stand for black and yellow, a song by Pittsburgh-based rapper Wiz Khalifa.
While this song is primarily about a car, it has come be a song about Pittsburgh and its sports teams.
Maybe instead of “Pittsburgh”, “Pirates” or another word for Pirates, the jerseys will say “Black & Yellow”, kind of like the Brewers City Connects say “Brew Crew” and the Astros with “Space City”.
Another theory is that the “Y” is actually the confluence of the three rivers and that will be incorporated into the uniform and the other symbol is a box with some kind of design in it.
The City Connect jerseys take aspects of the team’s town into the uniform design.
With rivers, bridges, inclines and even sandwiches with fries on them, there is no shortage of ideas for the Pirates jersey that will hopefully be released sometime this season.
