PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He spent last season in the Steelers locker room and knows Russell Wilson, Patrick Peterson joined Good Morning Football on the NFL Network on Thursday saying the new quarterback will be a great fit in Pittsburgh.

“I think this is a match made in heaven,” Peterson said on NFL Network. “With Coach Tomlin’s personality, Russ’ personality. When you have a head coach that has the ability to gear his team up for whatever presents itself and you have a quarterback with the same fire.”

“That can be a dangerous football team.”

Peterson said he texted with Wilson after the news broke to give him a ‘brief synopsis’ of what he was getting into. He said he bragged to Wilson about how great Tomlin is, along with the staff. Peterson believes Tomlin will allow the sometime eccentric Wilson to be himself, to a certain extent, as long as it is not affecting the team.

As for how he feels the group in there will react to Wilson coming?

“I believe Russ will be welcomed with open arms,” Peterson told Good Morning Football. “That’s one thing that Coach does a great job at, he allows guys to be themselves. That is Coach Tomlin’s locker room, that’s his team. None of those things that flew in Denver, it’s not going to fly in Pittsburgh.”

Peterson told NFL Network he believes Tomlin will be prepared to make the most of Wilson’s abilities. He said the Steelers head coach is someone who never leaves a stone unturned and that’s why he’s had as much success as he has. The Wilson signing is something Peterson believes will take them to another level.

“We all know what Russ is capable of doing,” Peterson said on Good Morning Football. “This can put Coach Tomlin back in the Ben Roethlisberger days when Ben was able to extend time and deliver the ball down the field to wide open receivers and also having a defense that can get off the field, can win in crunch time.”

“I believe this is definitely a match made in heaven.”

Back in black and gold?

Peterson also discussed his desire to return to the team that released him just a few days ago.

“The body is great,” Peterson told NFL Network. “That tool is strong. I would love to return to Pittsburgh. Coach Tomlin and I had a great dialogue when I got that dreaded call about being released.”

“Being there in Pittsburgh, I had the time of my life. Being with Coach Tomlin seeing how he was able to gear his guys up week-in and week-out, no matter the circumstances. He told me the door was still open for business.”

Peterson said he would play anywhere on the field and just has one goal before he finishes his career, to win a championship.
