Paul Skenes is a great baseball player and an even better guy.
The Pirates ace made an unannounced stop Monday night at the Vestal Baseball Fields in Wexford to hang out with the young players of the Ingomar Franklin Park baseball league.
Kevin Wozniak and his two son’s Henry and Ben were there as Skenes spent about two hours signing autographs, taking photos and playing catch with the kids.
Kevin tells 93.7 The Fan a few of the kids asked him why he was at the field.
“I was driving by, saw the lights on and was bored so I decided to say hi.”
Kevin says it was an amazing moment for the kids and that Skenes “couldn’t have been a cooler guy.”
Behind all the strikeouts and dominating performances and awards, there is a genuinely good person and that small experience for the kids is something they’ll never forget.
Kevin called the experience a core memory.
“Henry casually catching with Skenes and Ben “striking out Ohtani” as the best pitcher in all of MLB catches for him,” said Kevin about his sons.
