PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – “For a defensive coordinator, it’s going to be hard for sure.”

Steelers receiver George Pickens’ words Friday after a full week of practice with newly acquired receiver Mike Williams. The 29-year-old Williams is an inch taller than Pickens, as George said, it’s always good to have another big-body threat who can go downfield.

He said it will also help quarterback Russell Wilson as it gives him another option. Wilson is entering his third Steelers start winning both games with a 63.2 completion percentage, 542 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions with a 111.9 QB rating.

Pickens is coming off combining for nine catches for 185 yards and a touchdown in the pair of games with Wilson. He doesn’t know Williams, saying they had only met once previously. He said they’ve talked about route depth and other receivers stuff and have similar skill sets. Pickens also noted the receivers room has embraced having the eight-year veteran.

Why Pickens believes this offense has improved, and averaging 32 points a game over the last three, is the balance between the run and pass recently:

·     Vs Giants 167 yards rushing, 259 yards passing
·     Vs Jets 149 yards rushing, 260 yards passing
·     Vs Raiders 183 yards rushing, 110 yards passing (Justin Fields start)

He said they have played off one another and success in one opens up the other. Pickens also credited the play of the defense for helping.

It’s unknown how much Williams will play, but he’s had some first team reps in practice this week and seems to be fitting in. Anticipation is it will only enhance what Pickens can do.
