PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Mike Tomlin had already announced that Kenny Pickett was doubtful as he was limited all week while trying to get out of concussion protocol. There is only one other listed and he would be a key to improving the run defense.
Linebacker Myles Jack is doubtful to play with a groin injury. The free agent signing from Jacksonville has played through injury the last few weeks, but now likely to be unable to go. That would open the door for a young guy.
Steelers have the option of playing multiple safeties and using Marcus Allen at that spot. Another would be finally giving seventh-round pick, linebacker Mark Robinson the opportunity to crack the lineup. He played five snaps against Tampa Bay, other than that has been a healthy scratch. Coaches said weeks ago he was still learning the defense as to why he hadn’t played.
“It’s a day-to-day process, never overthinking it,” Robinson said. “We’ve been playing the game for a lot time. Preparation is key, take care of preparation day-in and day-out and magic happens on Sunday.”
“He's always ready and always working,” Tomlin said. He’s been one of those guys that's a healthy inactive. Oftentimes young guys fall into that category but not due to lack of work or continually preparing themselves. We'll see how we divide the labor up.”
The following were limited or missed a practice or two this week, but have been fully cleared to play
· WR Diontae Johnson (hip)
· CB Cameron Sutton (neck)
· RB Najee Harris (hip)
· TE Pat Freiermuth (foot)
· DL Larry Ogunjobi (toe)
· CB Josh Jackson (ankle)
It was a spirited practice on Friday as we will find out tomorrow if Pickett or Jack will be cleared to play for certain.
“Today was great, guys were bouncing around,” Trubisky said. “Guys were competing, I thought we had some juice to us. I thought we capped off a really good week of practice. Just have to continue to stay locked in.”
