Pirates' amateur scouting director joins Nationals as assistant GM

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ director of amateur scouting is getting a promotion, with another team.

According to multiple reports, Justin Horowitz has been hired by the Washington Nationals to become the team’s assistant General manager.

Horowitz was hired in November 2023 by Bucs GM Ben Cherington and was a big part of the organization’s last two drafts.

That includes the 2024 MLB Draft which saw the Pirates select infielder Konnor Griffin, the current top prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

MiLB insider Joe Doyle, who reported the move first, says “Horowitz worked alongside new Nationals President of Baseball Operations Paul Toboni extensively in Boston from 2015 through 2023.”

The Pirates will now need to find a new amateur scouting director.
