Pirates avoid arbitration with Bednar and Holderman

The Pirates have avoided arbitration with two of their top bullpen arms.

Both David Bednar and Colin Holderman have avoided arbitration with the Pirates.

Bednar will make $5.9 million and Colin Holderman will make $1.5 million in 2025.

The 30-year-old Bednar struggled mightily in 2024, losing his closing job.

Bednar posted a 5.77 ERA last season over 62 games. He went 3 and 8, striking 58 out, walking 28 over 57.2 innings.

The Mars native is under Pirates control through 2027.

Holderman appeared in 55 games last season going 3 and 6 with a 3.16 ERA.

He struck out 56 over 51.1 innings of work in 2024.

Holderman missed several weeks with a wrist injury in August and was a steady presence in the bullpen when he was healthy.

The 29-year-old will likely continue to be the Pirates setup man this coming season.

The Pirates appear to be going into arbitration with righty Johan Oviedo, who was activated from the injured list this past November after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
They’re also going into arbitration with pitcher Dennis Santana.

The Pirates have also avoided arbitration with LHP Bailey Falter and catcher Joey Bart.
