The Pirates won't get the #1 overall draft pick for a second year in a row and for the third time in four years, but it will be in the top 10.
The Pirates will have the 9th pick after the 2024 Draft Lottery was announced.
Cleveland will have the number 1 pick, followed by the Reds, the Rockies, A's and White Sox who round out the top five.
The Pirates only had a 3 percent chance of getting the first overall pick.
The 9th pick is the lowest for the Pirates since 2019, when they took pitcher Quinn Priester 18th overall.
The Pirates took Henry Davis 1st overall in 2021 and LSU pitcher Paul Skenes this past July.
While he didn't get any time behind the plate in 2023, the Pirates say Davis will be a catcher in 2024. He spent his time in the outfield.
There are high hopes for Skenes in 2024.
2022 first round draft pick, Termarr Johnson who was taken 4th overall is currently in High-A Greensboro. He has an ETA in the Major Leagues in 2025.
