Pirates in 'serious discussion' to get Brandon Lowe from Rays

UPDATE: Local Pirates insiders are now also reporting the three-team deal is completed, pending medical.

According to reports, the Pirates are in “serious discussions” to acquire infielder Brandon Lowe.

The Athlietic’s Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome report the Pirates are in talks with the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays.

Rome says the three-team deal would send right-handed pitcher Mike Burrows to Houston and the Pirates would get Lowe.

The Pirates would also get lefty Mason Montgomery and outfielder Jake Mangum.

Rosenthal says outfielder Jacob Melton and pitcher Anderson Brito would go to Tampa.

Lowe had 31 home runs last season with 83 RBI and hit .256.

The two-time, 31-year-old, All-Star has played all eight seasons in the MLB with Tampa

Burrows went 2-4 for the Pirates last season with a .333 ERA over 23 games (19 starts.)

Burrows struck out 97 over 96 innings.

Reports the Pirates would also get switch-hitting outfielder Jake Mangum, who hit .296 with a .330 on-base percentage and .698 OPS in his rookie season in 2025. He finished with 18 doubles, three home runs, 27 stolen bases in 405 at bats.
