Pirates invite Konnor Griffin, Termarr Johnson and others to Spring Training

The Pirates have officially invited two of their top prospects to Spring Training.

The team announced seven additional non-roster invitees on Friday. They include infielder/outfielder Konnor Griffin and infielder Termarr Johnson.

ESPN baseball insider Jeff Passan reported late last year the top prospect in baseball will get a chance to make the Opening Day Pirates roster.

Griffin doesn’t turn 20 until late April and is currently at the Double-A level in Altoona.

Griffin hit .338 in Low-A Bradenton, 325 in High-A Greensboro and finished the season at Double-A Altoona with a .337 average.

Griffin was taken 9th overall in the 2024 draft out of Jackson Prep, in Jackson, Mississippi and doesn’t turn 20 until late April.

He was the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year and is the top prospect for both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline.

The 21-year-old Johnson, taken 4th overall in the 2022 draft, his .272 with Altoona last season with 118 hits and 9 home runs.

Johnson is currently the Pirates’ 7th overall prospect in their system, per MLB Pipeline.

Other players getting invites to Bradenton include catchers Shawn Ross and Omar Alfonzo, right-handed pitchers Noah Davis and Chris Devenski, and infielder Duce Gourson.
