The Pirates made a few roster moves before they try to avoid a sweep against the Mets in New York.
The team has announced they’ve claimed infielder/outfielder Michael Helman off of waivers from St. Louis.
To make room for Helman, infielder Enmanuel Valdez has been transferred to the 60-day injured list with left should inflammation.
Helman has nine games of MLB experience, paying for the Twins last year.
He went 3-for-10 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Acquired by the Cardinals this past offseason for cash, Helman was batting .185 with Triple-A Memphis this season over 18 games.
He has five RBI and one home run during that time.
Also, catcher/infielder Endy Rodriguez begins a rehab assignment in Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday night.
Rodriguez lacerated a finger a month ago and was placed on the injured list.
