Pirates 1st overall draft pick Henry Davis, who made his debut in the Pirates rookie Florida Complex League last week has been promoted to High-A Greensboro.
The 21-year-old, who signed a $6.5 million signing bonus, homered and doubled in his debut last week and went 3-for-7 in two games in the FCL.
Davis skips Low-A Bradenton and will get the opportunity to get his journey to the Majors jump started.
While Davis will get the opportunity to play at a more competitive level, he'll also get to work with some Pirates pitchers of the future behind the plate.
Pirates top pitching prospect Quinn Priester, along with Tahnaj Thomas and Carmen Mlodzinski (currently on the 7-day IL) will have the opportunity to work with the hopeful Pirates catcher of the future.
The catcher out of Louisville will also get an opportunity to work with some of his potential future Pirates teammates in infielders Nick Gonzales and Liover Peguero.
If Davis preforms well in Greensboro, it's likely he could move to Double-A Altoona in mid-2022.
Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington promised to restock the Pirates Minor League system when he took over, and so far has done a good job, launching the Pirates back into the top 10 for the first time in four year.
The promotion shows the Pirates believe in Davis and that his debut in the show could be sooner rather than later.
