Pirates swap right-handed pitches in trade with Red Sox

The Pirates have traded for a pitcher recently designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox.

According to reports, the Pirates are sending RHP Matt McShane to Boston for RHP Chase Shugart.

The 28-year-old Shugart was taken by the Red Sox in the 12^th round of the 2018 MLB Drat out to the University of Texas at Austin.

Shugart has made six appearances in the MLB for the Red Sox last season. He had a 4.15 ERA over 8.2 innings pitched, giving up eight hits, four earned runs, one home run, three walks and eight strike outs.

The 22-year-old McShane was taken the by the Pirates in the 13^th round of last year's draft out to St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
