The Pirates have traded for a pitcher recently designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox.
According to reports, the Pirates are sending RHP Matt McShane to Boston for RHP Chase Shugart.
The 28-year-old Shugart was taken by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Drat out to the University of Texas at Austin.
Shugart has made six appearances in the MLB for the Red Sox last season. He had a 4.15 ERA over 8.2 innings pitched, giving up eight hits, four earned runs, one home run, three walks and eight strike outs.
The 22-year-old McShane was taken the by the Pirates in the 13th round of last year's draft out to St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
