The Pirates have been good so far this season, but with a highly-competitive NL Central Division, every win and loss are impactful.
The Pirates’ middle relievers have let some games slip away this season, including Sunday’s 7-6 loss to the Giants.
According to 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi, the Pirates are rumored to be looking at options to acquire a more reliable middle reliever.
Poni says the Pirates are “kicking the tires” on a trade that would bring New York Mets setup man Brooks Raley to Pittsburgh.
The 37-year-old Raley is in the final year of his current deal.
While his age may set off alarm bells, right-handed hitters are currently only hitting .205 off of him with a .506 OPS.
But, don’t expect a trade to be made in the coming days.
“Nothing imminent,” said Poni. “But there is due diligence.”
