Left-hand hitting Robert Hassell comes to the Pirates for cash considerations from Washington. Hassell played in 70 games with the Nats last year hitting .223 with a .257 on-base percentage and .572 OPS. This year in AAA, .215/.304 OBP/.593 OPS with 11 doubles, two home runs and eight stolen bases.
Hassell was designated for assignment by Washington Sunday and won’t need to be put on the 40-man roster.
