What to know about the players committing to Pitt

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was a busy day in the transfer portal for Pitt football on Saturday with six committing to play for Pat Narduzzi. They come from schools like Ohio State and Florida along with a local defensive back from Cal U.

Here is the group as first reported by Chris Peak of Panther-lair.com with some notes about all of them.

WR Andy Jean (6’1”, 184 pounds, University of Florida)

·      A 4-star recruit from Miami, Jean also had offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Texas A&M, Penn State, Tennessee and others. Pitt had offered him out of high school. He played in one game this season and redshirted in 2023, but played in four games with six catches for 97 yards and returned two kickoffs for 44 yards

CB Rashan Murray (6’, 160 pounds, Cal Pa.)

·      The Obama Academy graduate was also a standout wide receiver in high school. As a junior this season made 39 tackles (27 solo) with the Vulcans with four interceptions, 14 passes defended and a forced fumble. Last year had 31 tackles with six PBU and a forced fumble. Murray played sparingly his first season.

S Jayden Bonsu (6’2”, 207 pounds, Ohio State)

·      A 4-star recruit from Hillside, NJ (4th best player in New Jersey), Bonsu picked the Buckeyes over Alabama, Miami, Michigan State and others. He redshirted his freshman season in 2023 and did not factor in the 2024 season at OSU.

DE Blaine Spires (6’3”, 230 pounds, Utah State)

·      Started his career at Bowling Green as a two-star recruit out of Youngstown East. He played in only four games this season at Utah State with eight tackles, three for loss. His junior season at USU he had 27 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and five sacks with three fumble recoveries. Played 30 games at Bowling Green with 66 tackles, 10 tackles for loss.

DE Joey Zelinsky (6’5”, 260 pounds, Eastern Michigan)

·      Earned his degree from Eastern Michigan in December 2023, originally from Blue Mountain HS in Pennsylvania and was not rated by 247 Sports. Finished with 29 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss with a pair of forced fumbles. Had 38 tackles in 12 games as a junior with six tackles for loss at EMU.

OL Keith Gouveia (6’4”, 305 pounds, Richmond)

·      A redshirt junior from Stephens City, Virginia Gouveia started three of the six games he played. As a sophomore started nine of 13 games and made 12 starts as a redshirt freshman as the Spiders offense averaged 31.3 points per game.
