PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was the sight of one of James Conner’s best college games and now the Panthers are heading back to Detroit for a bowl game.

Pitt (7-5) will take on MAC school Toledo (7-5) in the GameAboveSports Bowl at Ford Field at 2p on December 26. It’s the third bowl opportunity in Michigan. The first being Conner’s 229 yards rushing in a 30-27 win over Bowling Green in 2013 and then beating Eastern Michigan 34-30 in 2019.

"On behalf of our entire football program, I want to thank the Detroit Lions organization and GameAbove Sports Bowl for the opportunity to play one more time in 2024," said Pat Narduzzi. "I have great respect for Coach Jason Candle and his Toledo program. They are an incredibly consistent winner. They won 11 games a year ago, and this season defeated an SEC team in Mississippi State and beat the same Northern Illinois team that gave Notre Dame its only loss. We look forward to the challenge."

The Panthers are 2-1 all-time against the Rockets, winning in the last meeting 45-3 on September 30, 2006. Toledo won its second game ever against a SEC opponent pounding Mississippi State in Starkville 41-17 in September. They also beat Duquesne to open the season 49-10. Rockets lost its last two games to Ohio University and at Akron.

Quarterback is a question for the Panthers with Nate Yarnell transferring and Eli Holstein banged up.
