
It was quite the Saturday for Pitt Athletics as the men's soccer team advanced to the College Cup for the second time in three seasons, and the volleyball team reached the Sweet 16 for the third straight season.
After regulation score was tied 0-0. In the 104th minute in double overtime Bertin Jacquesson sent a great cross to Valentin Noel who scored with a header just outside the penalty hash advancing Pitt to the final 4 in a 1-0 win over Portland.
It is the second time in three seasons Pitt has qualified for the national semifinals. The Panthers lost 1-0 match against the Indiana Hoosiers in their last appearance in the 2020 semifinals. Pitt will face Indiana in the final 4 December 9th for a chance at redemption.
On the hardwood it was total domination from the volleyball team as they took down Yale in three straight sets (25-21), (25-22), (25-18), sending the Panthers to the Sweet 16 for the third straight season.
Two Panthers made history in the match as Rachel Fairbanks got the first triple double in program history in the NCAA tournament. Fairbanks finished with 10 kills, 28 assists, and 13 digs.
Courtney Buzzerio also made history as she finished with 23 kills, an NCAA Tournament record for Pitt.
The Panthers will face Florida in the NCAA Regional Semifinals December 8th.
