PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Unable to reach an agreement with the Pirates, and seemingly not in their plans in 2026, Andrew McCutchen signed with the Texas Rangers this winter. Despite a hot start, he had struggled recently and on Wednesday was designated for assignment putting his baseball future in doubt.
The 39-year-old began the season with hits in each of his first five games with Texas including a home run and pair of doubles and a .429 average. It was a struggle after, the 2013 NL MVP only hit .100 the rest of April and in May hit .188.
Overall McCutchen had a .192 average, .277 on-base percentage with three extra base hits and a .537 OPS.
In 12 years with the Pirates, McCutchen led the franchise back to the playoffs in three straight years hitting .281 overall with a .372 on-base percentage, .839 OPS, 351 doubles, 248 home runs and 875 RBI with 186 stolen bases. Along with winning the MVP, he was top five in voting for four straight years with the Pirates.
