Report: Aroldis Chapman to sign with Red Sox

The Cuban Missile is heading to Boston.

Left-handed relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth $10.75 million.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan says the deal is pending a physical.

The 36-year-old went 5-5 last season with a 3.79 ERA over 68 games.

He had 14 saves and stuck out 98 batters over 61.2 innings.

Chapman signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Pirates last season and was kept by Pittsburgh through the trade deadline.

Keeping Chapman was criticized because of his age, but at the time of the deadline, the Pirates were still fighting for a postseason spot.

While not the dominant pitcher of his prime, Chapman showed he still had a dominant fastball at times.

Chapman’s role became bigger with Pirates closer David Bednar struggling on the mound and dealing with injuries.

MLB’s Winter Meetings take place next week in Dallas, Texas, expect the offseason to heat up then.
