According for a report from NFL Network, Steelers soon-to-be free agent quarterback Mason Rudolph is looking for a "fresh start".
Rudolph, who helped the Steelers make it into the playoffs with three late season wins in a row likely won't be in Pittsburgh next season.
The Steelers have expressed interest in re-signing Rudolph, but it's unknown if Rudolph would sign a new deal with Pittsburgh.
Here is what Rudolph said right after the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills:
"I love the Pittsburgh Steelers," Rudolph said. "They have been my only home for six years. We will see what happens. It's not really my decision. A lot of it is out of my control, we will see what happens."
With Mike Tomlin putting Kenny Pickett back in the QB1 position during his season wrap-up news conference, why would Rudolph want to fight again for the starting position.
In six years, Rudolph has gone 8-4-1 over 21 games.
In four games and three starts this past season, Rudolph went 3-0 before losing to Buffalo in the playoffs, completing 74.3 percent of his passes.
He has 719 yards with three touchdowns and zero interception.
Rudolph re-signed with the Steelers this past season after it appeared no other team was interested in him. He will likely get more attention this free agency, but does any team in the league see him as a potential starter?
With Rudolph likely signing somewhere else, and the Steelers potentially cutting Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett could be the only quarterback in the room when free agency begins next month.
While Tomlin said that Pickett is QB1 going into 2024, there will be "competition."
Where that competition comes from the draft, free agency or both is yet to be determined.
