Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown told the PM Team on Tuesday that he believed Jared Jones would be out for awhile due to an elbow injury he sustained before the end of Spring Training.
Shortly after those comments, The Post-Gazette’s Noah Hiles reported that Jones will go on the injured list, but will not need Tommy John surgery, which would’ve ended his 2025 season.
Hiles reports that Jones “will need to go six weeks without throwing, meaning he will have to start the season on the injured list.”
Last week, Pirates Manager Derek Shelton said Jones would miss his final start of Spring Training with elbow soreness.
“We’re going to have to look at what happens going into the season,” Shelton told the Post-Gazette reports and others.
Jones went 6-8 last season over 22 starts with an ERA of 4.14.
The 23-year-old rookie got off to a hot start before going onto the injured list on July 4 last season with a lat strain.
He wasn’t the same in the second half, struggling to duplicate the success he had before his injury.
Jones is a key piece of the Pirates starting pitching staff going into this season, a staff headed by phenom Paul Skenes.
