PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Hired after Matt Canada was moved to offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan is reportedly staying with the Steelers.

According to NFL Insider Aaron Wilson, the Steelers had discussed moving him into a different role, but will reportedly retain him as the QB coach for a fourth season with the club.

Sullivan has been Kenny Pickett’s position coach his pair of seasons with the team and took over the play-calling duties after Canada’s firing in November. Sullivan called plays for an offense that eclipsed 400 yards for the first time in three years against the Bengals in November. Under Sullivan’s play-calling, the Steelers averaged 19.3 points over eight games.

Mike Tomlin said they would not interview him as a candidate to be the new offensive coordinator. They preferred to have someone from outside the organization do that job.

Sullivan had previously worked with Denver, the Giants and Tampa Bay-some of his time with Tampa and New York as an offensive coordinator, winning a couple of Super Bowls as a member of the Giants staff. A graduate of the United States Military Academy and Army Ranger, Sullivan started his coaching career at Youngstown State and then returned to coach at Army.
